…and the Greatest of These is Love…

It's officially February 14th, the day all about love! Sometimes I feel like it's a little tacky to think of a special day of the year for this. What do I mean by that? Well, don't get me wrong, it's wonderful getting to celebrate love with anyone in our lives and I am a sap for those little corny traditions, but making such a big fuss one day out of the year and going back to our normal routines so quickly the very next day; hmmm, it just seems like we miss the big picture.

Last Sunday we were encouraged at church to share the gifts and talents that God has given us with those around us. The sermon highlighted how we can pour our faith and love into every aspect of our lives, not just in church and not just to those we are "comfortable with" but spreading it to ALL those we see each day and in EVERY part of our lives.

We all have something we're good at- listening, writing, cooking, crafts, talking on the telephone, giving hugs, baking, photography, painting, wrenching, hospitality, let's face it- the list could seriously take at least twenty four hours to write all the various possibilities- big, little, fun, challenging, and everything in between- there's LOTS to consider.

How does this message and Valentine's Day go hand in hand? For me, I think, just like in our sermon last Sunday, this "love thing" extends far beyond just one predictable day every year. We have an opportunity, 365 days a year, to love hard and bless others- why subject it to just one day?! And just one act each day, if we look for opportunities and listen to God, He will present them to us. And the possibilities that that one act can bring, may bless us even more abundantly than we ever could have imagined.

We are all unique and wonderfully made, God created us and He doesn't make mistakes! So praise Him for those gifts He gave you and honor Him by using your uniqueness in each and every day God gives you breath and life.

The mundane days need just as much love in them as Valentine's Day. So how are you going to share the love through your gifts and talents that God has blessed you with? I can't wait to hear about it!

It's probably no secret that I praise God for giving me a baking ability...it's fun to share goodies any chance I can and who doesn't love a good cookie (especially with oatmeal in them?!). Last Thursday evening I did a little Valentine's Day baking early- it filled my heart to step away from the busyness of these recent days and warmed me even more to share a little goodness out of our farmhouse kitchen to those we hold dear and bear in our hearts plus some new friends too! This was a new "monster cookie" recipe that I tried out and it didn't seem to disappoint! It's always a successful day when you find a new recipe for the box!

Happy Valentine's Day friends 💕
