Did you know Christmas and birthdays aren't the only time to give gifts?!
It’s Thursday already! Somehow I can’t seem to figure out what day it is, but here we are more than halfway done with the week and plowing through the first week of the new year!
January can feel like a pretty “blah” month. When I say that, I know that God intends for us to enjoy everyone of His seasons. And I have to admit, there is something quite appealing about a chilly weekend inside, sipping hot coffee and reading because you don’t have to be outside doing yard work and fighting with the weed whacker (this is my weekly summer debacle, no joke). And snow, I'm just ready for a big pile of snow. However, it can seem a little bleak after the hustle, bustle and excitement of the holidays. I was feeling a good bit blue the last few days for several reasons but I had the most wonderful thing happen to me yesterday!
I received not one but two, two pieces of encouragement!
I mean how awesome is that?! My heart is grateful for a God that provides us with all we need- physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. And just as importantly, He provides us with folks in our lives who touch our hearts and supply us with an indescribable love and friendship.
I’m not like most people, I suppose. Words have a deep effect on me- both positive words and the negative ones too. The encouraging, kind words cause me to deeply value the exchanges that are so loving and appreciate the people who say them also. But the harsher or less heart filled words and interactions can truly be taken to heart and the kind.
It took two dear friends from my church family to help me realize what type of person I am. A sensitive introvert can struggle in this difficult world, but what a gift it is to feel all the amazing things this type of heart experiences too!
During this chilly, dull month of January, I would like to both inspire and challenge you to share words of encouragement, help, care and love to one person each day. It doesn’t have to be face to face- maybe you can send it through text, a phone call, email, send them a card in the mail- but I bet your friend or family member sure would love meeting up with you for a steaming cup of coffee this month and that would be the perfect time to share a few words of love then too! And you can even share with a stranger too! I’ve commented on pretty sweaters and cute shoes to a few folks this holiday season as I was out and about and even though they looked surprised that I, a complete stranger, took notice to their wardrobe that day, it was always greeted with a big smile!
One simple act of kindness and love can completely turn someone's day around. During a dreary start to the new year, let's add some light to someone's day!
Speaking of light, check out this beautiful view from the farmhouse on New Years Day!
