January has always been the perfect month for me to get caught up on some reading! It feels like life moves (slightly) slower in the month of January. Maybe it's just because Thanksgiving to Christmas always goes so fast? Anyways, for me, sometimes all the difference in reading just requires a really awesome, entertaining book!
Back in the very end of October, I ordered a book after seeing an advertisement as I was searching for a "farm themed Christian read". I wanted my next book to be real but also contain Biblical aspects to it. Caitlin Henderson's "Faith, Farming and Family" book was the second result of my Google wide search.
After reading the reviews on this popularly chosen book, I decided it was the right choice for me, pulled up my Amazon app and anxiously awaited for it to arrive in my mailbox. To say I am beyond fond of this book, well, even that would be an understatement!
You don't need to be wed or have kiddos running around or even have cattle out back chewing their cud to enjoy this book. Caitlin meticulously embeds scripture throughout the pages of her book that contain real life and sometimes very entertaining stories. She's real and doesn't hold back a thing. And isn't that what being a follower of Jesus is all about? Being humble?
It wasn't long after I dove into this book that I couldn't put it down. Lunch breaks didn't seem long enough and any extra time before bed (on the off chance that I could actually keep my eyes open after hitting the pillow) I would explore each new page and all that Caitlin had to share.
I have sticky tabs marking favorite quotes and have convinced myself I need to reread this book again because there's so much goodness that needs to be highlighted throughout. I've learned numerous new outlooks on my faith and how to apply them to situations in my life through this book and I'm incredibly grateful for that and Caitlin's vulnerability in writing each chapter.
So if you're looking to fill your chilly January evenings with a warm cup of coffee, thick blanket and some new reading material, consider an Amazon search for "Faith, Farming and Family"- you'll be amazed at the effect these 205 pages will have on your heart and your mind!
One of my favorite paragraphs I marked the first time around:
"When we take time to listen to people's stories, to try to understand them as individuals, we can do our job as Christians better. We will see each person not as a project that needs fixing but as simply another person who needs Jesus just like we do. We can lay our judgements aside and hear others out."
